I question some of the details (like the breakdown of the Q movement into three distinct phases, which seems like educated guesswork), but the main point is inarguable: that the story of Jesus grew and changed in different ways in diverse communities, even among the communities that produced what became the canonical gospels. Thorough and readable account of the historical context within which the creed was written, along with a fine commentary on how the believing community has trid to understand and apply it over the centuries. I was very excited about this book when I found it. The path of seeing that the "I" we love so much is not anywhere near as solid as we would like to think is not so easy at times. I generally enjoy almost anything Ruthie Knox writes.
